Community

Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker are invited to become actively involved members of our community by volunteering their time in service of their parish through ministries, or participating in any number of parish groups. Below is a brief description of the organizations that meet in our parish. If you would like more information, please contact the parish office.

The Catholic Women's League

Picture
The Catholic Women’s League of Canada calls its members to grow in faith and to witness to the love of God through ministry and service. Since receiving our Charter in 1958, the St. Joseph the Worker Council has done just that.
We host monthly masses, include a spiritual component to each meeting, provide bursaries for students graduating from our school who wish to continue their Catholic education and welcome those receiving sacraments to our parish with a card and gift. Service is an integral part of the CWL. We encourage members to become involved in projects in our local and global communities. Through passion and dedication, the council supports many organizations that provide aid and protection for the most vulnerable. Siloam Mission, L’Arche, Immaculate Conception Drop In Center, Park Manor, Habitat for Humanity, Crisis Pregnancy Centre, Ovoko Canada, Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, The Good Shepherd Campaign and our own church and school are just a few of the organizations that have benefitted from the fundraising and hard work done by our members.
At its heart, the St. Joseph the Worker Council is a group of women who enjoy each other’s company, who gather to share their gifts and to learn from each other. We wish to spread the word of our Lord and do good works that honour Him.
Interested women ages 16 and older are welcome to join us for one (or more) of our meetings which are held the second Tuesday of each month from September through May.

Couples for Christ

Picture
Couples for Christ (CFC) is a Catholic lay movement which began in 1981 intended for personal renewal and strengthening of Christian family life. It was recognized in 2000 by the Holy See (Vatican) as a private international association of the Faithful of Pontifical right. With its Global Mission “Moved by the Holy Spirit, one with the Catholic Church, blessed to witness to Christ’s love and service, Couples for Christ is a united global community of family evangelizers that sets the world on fire with the fullness of God’s transforming love.” CFC and its Family Ministries consisting of the Kids-For-Christ (KFC), Youth-For-Christ (YFC), Singles-For-Christ (SFC), Handmaids-of-the-Lord (HOLD) and Servants-of-the-Lord (SOLD), has grown into a worldwide community in over 163 countries sharing Gods’ love amidst our changing world.
At St. Joseph the Worker Parish and in all other parishes, CFC accepts membership through the Christian Life Program (CLP), which is the entry program consisting of 13 talks typically spread over 9 weekly sessions, aimed at leading participants to a renewed understanding of God’s plan for them.
CFC members support St. Joseph the Worker Parish by volunteering as Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters, Lectors, Altar Servers, Choir members, etc. and by promoting and actively participating in any programs of the parish.
Moreover, CFC serves the community at large by being Pro-God (promote devotion and love of God), Pro-Family (celebrate wedding milestones), Pro-Life (support March for Life) and Pro-Poor (raise funds through ANCOP, its social ministry which builds homes for the poor and sponsors children’s education).

The Friends Of Jesus The Delight Of God Covenant Community

Picture
On January 31, 1999 a group from the Servants of The Lord Prayer group of St. Edward’s Church Hall was led by the Lord to start a community that would center on John 15: 11-17. “…My commandment is this: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this; that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command…”
The following Sunday, the group had their Charismatic Prayer meeting in the basement of
St. Joseph the Worker Parish. The Community is also a member of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services of Manitoba, and St. Peter’s Church.

All members are encouraged to express their commitment to following the Lord Jesus Christ in the following ways:
a. Daily prayer
b. Weekly gathering of the community
c. Meeting with the pastoral leader
d. serving our community by sharing time, talent and money.
e. Be faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church as expressed in the Bible and Tradition.
All members are encouraged to bring to the Lord their family and friends by attending the weekly prayer meeting so that they can be drawn closer to the Lord with the ‘charismatic dimension’.
FOJ Members are active in the parish in the music ministry, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, and marriage preparation. The community is also helping the Sisters of The Missionaries Of Charity at their soup kitchen, prepare monthly hampers, and help pick-up groceries for refugees.

Knights of Columbus

Picture
We are the Knights of Columbus, Transcona Council #3853. This Council has been around since May 1954, almost 65 years! What is a Knight? Just a regular man with a strong faith and belief in God, a man who wants to help his church community grow.
We are in the community, helping to spread the teachings and beliefs of the Church, to put into practice what the Bible shows us. To show compassion to our fellow man and to offer help, spiritual or other, to those in need. Knights host Pancake Breakfasts, as well as Church BBQs and picnics, all in fellowship and faith. Come join us in our hope to strengthen our church community through good deeds and thoughts.
